Middlebury girls’ hockey reaches final

HARTFORD — The sixth-seeded Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team on Saturday pulled off its second straight road victory over a higher seed, this time blanking host Hartford, 3-0, in a Division II semifinal.
The Tigers were scheduled to take on No. 4 South Burlington (6-4) in the final, which was set to be played in Barre’s municipal rink on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. after the print deadline for this edition. The Wolves defeated the Tigers this season, 4-3, on March 10, taking a 4-1 lead before the Tigers scored twice in the third period.
On Saturday vs. second-seeded Hartford, Tiger goalie Abby Hodsden posted a 22-save shutout. Coach Matt Brush noted Hodsden has stopped 97% of the shots she has faced in the Tigers’ two playoff wins.
Ella Tucker scored twice for the 5-4 Tigers, and Channing Brush picked up the third goal and helped set up both of Tucker’s goals. Lily Finn also picked up an assist for MUHS. Hartford goalie Zoe Pfeiffer made 20 saves for her 5-5 team.
