PHOENIX, Ariz. — Mary Ann Sunderland, 70, originally from Vergennes, Vt., passed quietly with family at her bedside on the afternoon of March 5, 2021.
Mary was the first born of 15 children to Harvey and Ann (Milo) Russett Jr. She was born on Sept. 24, 1950 in Waltham, Vt. The Russetts were members of St. Peter’s Parish in Vergennes. She graduated from Vergennes Union High School in 1968.
Mary was known as “Mimi” to her seven beloved grandchildren: Bruce, Hunter, Hayden, Greyson, Georgia, Gianna and Lexi. Each one of them stole a little piece of her heart the moment they were born. There was not a thing she wouldn’t do for them as they were her entire world. She made sure every conversation with them ended with; “I love you more.” Everyone else knew her as “Mom.” She had a smile that could light up the room, a truly infectious laugh, and hair that was as uniquely colorful as her beautiful personality.
Mary settled in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2004. During her downtime she would enjoy crocheting, reading, eating out with friends and family, and speaking with her mother, religiously every Sunday. She was never more than a phone call away and will be immensely missed by so many. The depth of her loss will be forever felt. Mary was predeceased by her father, her brother Joel Russett, and her spouse, Ross Sunderland.
Mary is survived by her mother Ann Russett of Panton, Vt.; uncles Paul Milo of Florida and Gene Milo of Vermont; her children Kurt Barrows and husband Bhaskar Chatterjee of Phoenix, Karina Barrows and wife Auli Harinen of Phoenix, Kristin Barrows of Phoenix, Kelly Warren and husband Matt Warren of Vail, Ariz., and Kylie Stevens and husband Matthew Bruch of Weybridge, Vt. Also, by her seven grandchildren, 13 siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Per her wishes, no service will be held. ◊
