MUHS Tiger girls nip Harwood in hockey
MORETOWN — The No. 6 Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team pinned a 2-1 loss on No. 3 Harwood on Tuesday in a Division II quarterfinal.
The Tigers got goals from McKenna Raymond and Ella Tucker, two assists from Channing Brush, and an assist apiece from Raymond and Audrey Schnoor as they took a 2-0 lead in the second period.
Goalie Abby Hodsden made 24 saves as those two goals stood up for the victory. The Tigers improved their record to 4-4 and dropped the Highlanders to 4-5.
The Tigers will next take on No. 2 Hartford at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in a semifinal.
The D-II final will be played in Barre on Tuesday or Wednesday at a time to be announced.
In their final regular-season action, on March 10, the Tigers lost to visiting South Burlington, 4-3. The Wolves, who wrapped up their regular season at 4-4, got two goals from Sabrina Brunet and 21 saves from Taylor Tobrocke.
The Tigers trailed, 4-1, entering the third period before seeing a rally fall short. Tucker scored twice and set up Raymond’s goal, while goalies Lydia Deppman and Hodsden teamed up for 26 stops.
