Letter to the editor: Conlon’s talent, experience needed for ACSD board

I’m voting to re-elect Peter Conlon to the Board of Directors for the Addison Central School District. I had the honor of serving alongside Peter for eight years on the ACSU and MUHS boards. During that time, the ACSU board successfully navigated several challenges on top of the day-to-day business we are charged with — challenges that included leadership turnover with loss of key administrators and subsequent staff searches that resulted in the hiring people that have proven to be the foundation of a strong leadership team that has taken the district forward in numerous ways.
Perhaps the most notable accomplishment during that time was achieving, with the overwhelming support of the community, District Unification. The process spanned several years and included extensive study of the issues, robust community engagement and development of a plan to execute the transition. Peter was actively engaged in this process as a communicator and as a leader.
Of the current board members, I believe he holds the most institutional knowledge of that entire process, of the numerous conversations that were undertaken in every town of the district, and what was required to execute the transition.
Peter has served as chairperson of both the MUHS and the ACSD boards, providing stable, solid leadership, allowing all voices to be heard, and guiding the boards to sound decisions. He has helped form the vision and mission of the district and consistently held the administration accountable for attaining those established standards.
Peter also serves in the State Legislature, and is the ranking member of the House Committee on Education. It’s clear that Peter is dedicated to public service, and his record on educational issues that impact the youth of Vermont and of our towns reflect his dedication and his extensive experience.
Because of my experience working with him and observing his steadfast leadership style, his tireless commitment and dedication to the district, and the results achieved under his leadership, I heartily endorse Peter Conlon for re-election to the ACSD board.
