Letter to the editor: Conlon merits another term
On my Town Meeting Day ballot, I will be voting for Peter Conlon for the Addison Central School District Board. I have known Peter for many years, and value his experience and insight as a colleague in the Vermont House for the past five years.
Peter’s years of service on the ACSD Board have come during difficult times as the district faces the headwinds of declining enrollment while trying to keep an excellent school system affordable to taxpayers. He has helped the board approach these challenges with foresight and sensitivity. The board is several years into creating its master plan, and it’s important to note that it has taken the time to listen to folks in every town outside of the formal structure of school board meetings. Until he stepped down as chair in March 2020, Peter was the face of the board at six district-wide forums, and at community meetings in many of our district towns. The new chair and vice chair have carried on that practice with numerous “backyard conversations” throughout the district during the pandemic.
I would like to see that work and openness to community conversations continue, and I look forward to casting my vote for Peter.
