DOROTHY SLACK ZICKLER

VERGENNES — Dorothy Slack Zickler died peacefully at her home attended to by her son and daughter with the support from Hospice. She had reached her 100th birthday on Oct. 30. Her family had celebrated her birthday with a big gathering for the last 10 years but sadly this year, it was a zoom celebration.
She was born in Vergennes, the second generation to be born in the house her daughter lives in now. After graduating from Vergennes High School, she graduated from Bay Path Institute in Longmeadow, Mass., with a degree in Business.
She met her husband of 60 years, Herbert Zickler, when he came to Vergennes to teach at the High School. They moved to Tilton, N.H., where he taught at Tilton Preparatory School and she started a long career working in a bank, retiring as the secretary to President of the Merchant’s National Bank of Dover, N.H. She lived in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont before moving back to Vergennes to live with her son and to be close to her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Driscoll, and her son, Gerald Zickler. The joys of her life were her seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
All who knew her knew of her warmth, keen mind and sense of humor. She loved reading mysteries and doing crossword puzzles. She was blessed with a sharp mind to the end.
The family wishes to thank Addison County Home Health and Hospice for their kindness to her and their support to her children. Burial will be in Montgomery, N.Y., later this year next to her husband, who predeceased her.◊
