Letter to the editor: The GOP is different now

I too am a Vermonter, with family in VT before it became a state. However, I must take issue with last week’s letters re: Trump and Republicans. (Addison Independent, Nov. 19, “GOP’s evolution has become threat to our way of life”). As you may recall, many of us were originally Republicans, but today’s Republican Party is not the same as our parents’ Republican Party. I now consider myself a GDI, or gosh darn independent. I do support Gov. Scott and his moderate side of the Republicans, but I cannot, nor ever have, supported Trump. I now vote for the person and not the party.
To paint all Vermonters with one brush is a disservice — not only to Vermonters, but also to the Republican Party. I have voted for Democrats and Independents, and supported Jim Jeffords when he switched parties.
Yes, I am a native, but vote my conscience.
