Vermont State Police Log: Police respond to crash in Goshen
ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police were called to a one-car crash on Route 53 near South Hill Road in Goshen on this past Sunday, Aug. 23, at five minutes after 8 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Irving Felker, 51, of Yarmouth, Maine, was driving a 2014 Mazda 3 westbound on Route 53, when he saw a deer and swerved to avoid striking the animal. Felker’s vehicle traveled off the road onto the soft shoulder where it rolled several times and came to rest partially in the westbound lane.
The Brandon Rescue Squad took Felker to Rutland Regional Medical Center for suspected minor injuries.
The Brandon Fire Department assisted state police at the scene.
The New Haven state police barracks also reported two other recent actions in press releases.
On Aug. 22 state police reported the outcome of an investigation that began this spring. On May 27 troopers stopped a vehicle on Route 7 near River Road in New Haven for speeding. The driver identified herself as Janelle Hewitt, 22, of Rutland.
Upon further investigation, troopers (with help from the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department) learned that the driver provided false information on her identity. Police now report that the driver in the May 27 motor vehicle stop was Jennifer Piccone, 31, of Fair Haven. Police located Piccone and cited her for making a false report to a law enforcement officer.
On Aug. 23 at a little after 5 p.m. troopers were dispatched to a home on Gap Road in Goshen for a report of an unoccupied vehicle in a ditch. After speaking with the owner of the vehicle and witnesses, police determined that David L. Bent, 37, of Pittsford drove the vehicle without the owner’s consent and caused more than $500 worth of damage to the vehicle.
Police found Bent and cited him for an aggravated case of driving without the owner’s consent.
Brandon police helped state police on this one.
