Addison youth wins state honor

VERGENNES — Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes Youth of the Year Michael Davis has been selected as Vermont Boys & Girls’ Clubs’ Youth of the Year.
According to Vergennes Club Interim Director Cookie Steponaitis, Davis prevailed over “a very competitive field representing all five of the Boys & Girls Clubs in Vermont” in an online event that included interviews. Community service and service to the club are key criteria.
Davis, a recent Vergennes Union High School graduate and Addison resident, will next try his hand at the Northeast Competition on Aug. 31.
By virtue of winning the state event Michael will receive a $2,500 scholarship that he will put toward his education at Vermont Technical College, which he plans to attend in the fall. Davis intends to work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation and a commercial pilot’s license.
The Vergennes club would like to thank the Boys & Girls Club of America ßfor the Youth of the Year Program and Tanya Benosky of the Burlington Boys & Girls Club for her efforts to promote the program and make possible this year’s first-ever virtual competition.
