Seven college runners qualify for nationals

MIDDLEBURY — Seven Panthers qualified to compete at the 2020 NCAA Division III Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 13 and 14 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Due to concerns with the novel coronavirus, however, the meet was cancelled.
The seven athletes selected to take part in the event were senior Meg Wilson; juniors Katie Glew, Gretchen McGrath and Ava O’Mara; sophomores Cassie Kearney and Nicole Johnson; and freshman Grace Desmond.
The distance medley relay quartet of Glew, McGrath, Wilson and Kearney were seeded seventh with a time of 11:54.85. McGrath and Kearney ran on the 2019 Panther relay team that placed second.
McGrath, Kearney, O’Mara and Desmond were seeded 11th in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:53.94. The mark was registered last weekend at the Tufts’ National Qualifying Meet where the quartet won the event.
Individually, Johnson was seeded 15th in the 800 in a field of 20 runners with a time of 2:15.08.
