Tiger boys’ hockey splits contests
ESSEX — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team won one of two road games last week.
The 10-9 Tigers will wrap up their regular season by hosting South Burlington on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Vermont Principals Association will announce playoff seeds on Thursday. It appears the Tigers will be seeded either No. 5 or 6 and face either No. 4 Stowe or No. 3 Rice in a quarterfinal early next week.
On this past Wednesday Jordan Martin scored with 1:06 left in overtime to complete a Tiger rally as MUHS defeated host Colchester, 4-3. The Tigers trailed, 3-1, entering the third period.
Joey Niemo, Hale Hescock and Daniel Hodsden also scored for the Tigers, and goalie Eddie Hodde made 24 saves. Will Spencer scored twice for the 4-11-1 Lakers, and CHS goalie Hunter Baker made 17 saves.
On Saturday host first-place Essex improved to 17-1-1 by edging the Tigers, 1-0. Hornet Tobey Cram scored the game’s only goal in the second period, and Hornet goalie Paul Gordon made 12 saves. Hooper made 20 saves for the Tigers, who saw a tying goal later in the second period inadvertently waved off, according to Coach Derek Bartlett.
