In boys’ soccer, local squads net triumphs

ADDISON COUNTY — Middlebury edged Mount Abraham and Vergennes picked up a big road win to highlight boys’ soccer action last week, while elsewhere, the Eagles rebounded with a victory and Otter Valley dropped a road game.

TIGERS-EAGLES
On Wednesday the Tigers got a goal from Eben Jackson with five minutes remaining in regulation to edge the visiting Eagles, 2-1. The game was tied at the half as Alex Bleich, assisted by Owen Palcsik, scored for MUHS, and Silas Burgess, set up by Eric McKean, equalized for the Eagles. 
Goalie Owen Lawton made two saves for the Tigers, who improved to 7-2, and Ethan DeWitt stopped 11 shots for Mount Abe.
On Saturday the Eagles improved to 6-2-2 with a 1-0, double-overtime win over visiting Missisquoi (2-8-1). Griffin Paradee converted a McKean free kick to deliver the win to the Eagles. DeWitt made five saves, including back-to-back point-blank stops on the goal line midway through the second half. MVU keeper Kyle Gilbert made one save.
COMMODORES
On Wednesday Jonathan Willis led VUHS with a goal and an assist as the Commodores topped host Spaulding, 3-0.  Gabriel Kadric and Jonah Mahé also scored as VUHS improved to 3-5-1 heading into Saturday at MUHS.  
OTTERS
Host Mill River (4-7) blanked OV, 2-0, on Thursday as Tyler Corey scored a pair of goals. Hayden Bernhardt and Luca Cifone had the best chances for OV, which dropped to 1-9.
