Boys’ soccer sees late drama
ADDISON COUNTY — Mount Abraham and Vergennes battled to a tie to highlight local high school boys’ soccer in the latter part of last week. In other action Middlebury picked up a key Division II victory, while Otter Valley came up short twice.
STALEMATE
On Saturday the host Commodores broke on top, but the Eagles got a late goal from Neil Guy, assisted by Eric McKean, as the teams settled for a 2-2 tie. Jonah Mahé gave VUHS the lead in the second minute, and a Tucker Stearns goal set up by Jonathan Willis made it 2-0 at the break. Tucker Harris drew Mount Abe within one midway through the second half before Guy notched the tying strike in the 79th minute of regulation.
Goalie Jeffrey Stearns made 10 saves for 2-5-1 VUHS, and Ethan DeWitt stopped eight shots for the 5-1-2 Eagles.
TIGERS
The Tigers needed two overtimes to subdue visiting Milton, 1-0. Eben Jackson netted the golden goal after Milton goalie Sam Dooley made a diving save of an Owen Palcsik shot. Dooley stopped seven shots, and Tiger goalie Owen Lawton made 10 saves. The Tigers moved to 6-2, second place in D-II, while Milton dropped to 5-2-1.
OTTERS
The Otter Valley boys suffered two shutout losses, 2-0 at West Rutland on Wednesday and 5-0 at home to Hartford on Friday. The 1-6 Otters host White River Valley on Monday at 4 p.m.
