In girls’ basketball, Otters and Eagles net wins

ADDISON COUNTY — Otter Valley topped visiting Middlebury to highlight local high school girls’ basketball action late last week. In other games, Vergennes lost and Mount Abraham split on the road. 
OV OVER MUHS
At OV on Dec. 20 the Otters took a three-point halftime lead and then pulled away to win, 47-33, scoring a season-high in points in the process. Alia Edmunds (15 points) and Livia Bernhardt (10) led OV in the scorebook, and Alice Keith contributed seven points and 15 rebounds.
The Otters improved to 2-2 and will visit West Rutland on Friday.
Ivy Doran paced the 0-3 Tigers with 10 points; they also scored a season high. MUHS will host Mill River at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
VUHS
On Dec. 19 host Harwood topped the Commodores, 43-31. Mia Cooper led the Highlanders with 15 points.
Emily Gosliga scored nine points to pace VUHS (0-2), which will look to break into the win column at Montpelier at Saturday afternoon.
EAGLES
On Friday host Fair Haven rallied past the Eagles in the first round of the Slaters’ annual holiday tournament, 38-30. Slater sophomore Ryleigh Coloutti poured in 13 of her game-high 20 points in the final quarter as Fair Haven came back from a 24-19 deficit after three periods. 
Chloe Johnston led the Eagles with 13 points and Jalen Cook scored nine.
On Saturday Mount Abe evened its record at 2-2 with a 36-29 victory over Burr & Burton in the tournament’s second round. This time the Eagles staged a fourth-quarter rally after trailing the entire game and by 23-19 entering the fourth quarter.
Cook hit two vital hoops, Grace Harvey converted a key offensive board, and Johnston was four-for-four from the line in the period, part of the Eagles’ nine-for-10 effort on free throws in the final eight minutes.
Cook led the way with 12 points, and Johnston recorded eight points, five rebounds and four assists.
