Young Bristol artists earn accolades at Statehouse
BRISTOL — Fourteen Bristol Elementary School third-graders and their families traveled to Montpelier on Monday, Nov. 5, to celebrate their winning artwork created for the 2019 Robert Howe Fire Safety Calendar Contest. Organized each year by the Vermont Division of Fire Safety, this contest is open to Vermont third graders only, and promotes fire safety throughout the state.
Each year the calendar has a total of thirteen winners and thirteen honorable mentions, and BES is excited to announce that we had nine winners and five honorable mentions chosen out of over 500 posters submitted by schools all over the state of Vermont. The BES students created their posters during art class with visual arts teacher, Deb Mager Rickner.
The awards ceremony was held in the House Chambers in Vermont Statehouse. Winners received a teddy bear and each honorable mention recipient received a bag of fire safety goodies. Sparky the Dog and the Commissioner of Fire Safety were also in attendance.
Congratulations to the BES winners: Madison King, Ava Tedesco, Elinor Simmons, Jaret Sturtevant, Isabella Kilbourne, Mariyah White, Anya Briggs, Brayden Fay and Edda Twyman. Congratulations also to Honorable Mentions: Tinsae Deas, Sam Bowen, Morgan Rochon, Kai Ludka and Saebryn Carter.
