Letter to the editor: Deputy backs Newton in race for county sheriff

Ever since I was a kid, I had always dreamed of becoming a police officer. Today, serving my community as a deputy for the Addison County Sheriff’s office, it really is a dream come true. Peter Newton was instrumental in helping me achieve my dream and I can think of no better candidate for sheriff than him.
As I began my career in law enforcement, Peter helped me physically and mentally prepare for the path I was setting out on. I could tell that he had a love for the job he had and that he truly wanted to see me succeed in what I had set out to do. During my time at the academy, he even took the time out of his busy schedule and volunteered to come instruct for our patrol procedures class. Peter is an example to me of the hard work and dedication that it takes to excel in this profession and I am excited to see what the future holds for me with him as my next sheriff.
Peter has already taken steps to help grow and expand the sheriff’s office in his role as my lieutenant, and as our next sheriff I know he will continue to find ways to make our community and roads safer. Honesty, respect and leadership are just a few of the important characteristics of a law enforcement officer, which is why I will be voting for Peter Newton on Nov. 6 and why I encourage the rest of Addison County to do the same.
