Meteorologist Mark Breen to speak in Ripton
RIPTON — Curious about our weather and what’s going on with it? Join the Ripton Conservation Commission for an evening with meteorologist Mark Breen on Monday, Oct. 29., at 7 p.m., at the Ripton Community House. Breen, senior meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum and one of the VPR Eye On The Sky forecasters, will give a talk called “Vermont’s Weather: Past, Present, and Future.”
The local climate, as well as the Earth’s climate, is an enormous challenge to understand, and one with which scientists are continuously wrestling. Mark Breen has spent his professional career tracking and studying the weather and climate. He will use his expertise to discuss the fundamental pieces of climate, and share his thoughts on what we know, what we don’t know, and how that can help with decision-making. Questions are likely to arise, and he’ll gladly attempt to answer them.
Breen is the senior meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in St. Johnsbury. For over 35 years he has been the morning voice on Vermont Public Radio’s “Eye on the Sky” forecasts. He is also the author of the award-winning children’s book, “The Kid’s Book of Weather Forecasting.”
Along with weather forecasting for radio and newspapers, his work at the Museum involves teaching weather and science, as well as serving as the senior astronomer for the Lyman Spitzer, Jr. Planetarium, Vermont’s only public planetarium. The talk is sponsored by Green Mountain Electromagnetics.
