Letter to the editor: Audet opposes new taxes, but her ideas are costly

Marie Audet, please get real.
You are against new taxes but then propose financial incentives for business and homeowners to weatherize and retrofit buildings. Financial incentives are just a tax by another name. We still pay for them.
You propose more public transportation systems and for municipalities to install electric vehicle charging stations at $10,000+ a pop! I don’t see benefactors lining up to pay for these projects, we taxpayers will be paying for them. Its not that I object to these taxes, we need them to combat climate change. I just don’t appreciate the smoke and mirrors claims of no new taxes.
You correctly report that agriculture has been the greatest contributor of phosphorus, 41percent. Then without even an apology you want us to invest millions for farmers to clean up their thousands of acres. Those millions will have to come from us the taxpayers. And you have the audacity to say you are against new taxes? I’m no fool.
And I am especially insulted because this summer I went to step in my kayak on East Creek, (which is next to your farm fields) and I sank to my hips in runoff sediment and putrid green water. Your neighbor downstream of your farm fields said he invites you to join him counting the dead fish this Fall.
Its one thing to talk about clean water, another to make good on your promises.
