Letter to the editor: McCain leaves a lasting legacy

America lost a man of great integrity and strong principles, a genuine hero and a patriotic American on Friday with the passing of John McCain. As a progressive Democrat I did not often agree with his positions on the issues but I respected them and celebrated the fundamental right we have to disagree. If our democracy is to remain healthy we must have principled disagreements and we must be able to compromise. Compromise is not a dirty word but rather part of the foundation of our republic.
