Area baseball teams come up short

ADDISON COUNTY — In midweek baseball action, Fair Haven dealt Otter Valley its first Division II loss, while Middlebury and Mount Abraham each took last-inning setbacks.
Vergennes was set to visit Milton on Friday after the early holiday deadline for this newspaper. The regular season concluded over the weekend.
OTTERS
The host Slaters scored three times in the bottom of the seventh — and broke up OV pitcher Josh Beayon’s no-hit bid in the process — to edge the Otters, 3-2.
In the bottom of the seventh Dylan Lee singled, and with two outs Aubrey Ramey walked and a Parker Morse double made it 2-1. Aaron Szabo then greeted reliever Payson Williams with a two-run walk-off single.
OV scored in the fourth on doubles by Nate Hudson andDaniel Allen and aPatrick McKeighan squeeze bunt.
Nathan Bathalon tossed a three-hitter for the Slaters, who improved to 10-5. OV dropped to 11-4 heading into its finale, a home game vs. Mill River on Friday. The Otters could have nailed down a top-four seed with a win.
EAGLES
On Thursday host Spaulding (11-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Mount Abe, 5-4. Dustin Whitcomb took the loss after going 6.1 innings, with the winning rally consisting of a hit-batter, a single, a double, and an RBI grounder. Jon Jennings led the Eagle attack with three hits. Mount Abe finished at 5-11 and could be looking at a No. 12 seed in D-II.
TIGERS
On Thursday host Missisquoi topped the Tigers, 4-1, in eight innings, scoring three times in the top of the eighth. MVU hurler Avery Felley held the Tigers in check, fanning eight. Jordy Stearns took the loss, allowing six hits, walking none and fanning six. Hale Hescock poked two hits for MUHS, which dropped to 9-6 heading into a Saturday game at Spaulding.
