Monkton news for May 24

MONKTON — It’s that time of year again. Monkton Friends Methodist Church is hosting its annual plant and bake sale on Saturday, May 26, starting at 9 a.m. There will be a wide selection of hardy perennials, all from local gardens, so you know they will grow well in Monkton soil and thrive in Vermont temperatures. A wonderful variety of pastries, desserts, rhubarb and those super baked beans will be available at the bake sale. This is a great opportunity to see old friends, shop local and support the Monkton Friends Church all at the same time. Don’t miss it. For more information call Marilyn Cargill at 453-5192.
All are also welcome to a fun morning at the Russell Memorial Library on Saturday, May 26, from 10-11 a.m. for “Saturday Stories.” This month’s theme is ‘shapes,’ with crafts for the younger set along with simple songs and stories. Come join in on the activities. For more information, call the library at 453-4471.
Mark your calendar for the upcoming Strawberry Festival and Book Sale on Sunday, June 24, at the Monkton Volunteer Fire Department. The library will be hosting the annual event serving those ever-famous strawberries with cake and ice cream. The book sale will as usual be an opportunity to get some books at a great price and the silent auction always has a great array of items to bid on.
There will be live entertainment, which will be announced at a later date, to shop and eat by.
If you would like to donate some books for this great sale, the library will begin accepting donations on Thursday, May 31 (during open hours only please). The library cannot accept magazines, encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest condensed books or textbooks. Keep in mind that they are hosting a sale, not a recycling service, so make sure your donations are suitable. The library’s hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 3-7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thank you in advance for your donations. For more information, call 453-4471; leave a message if no answer and someone will get back to you.
