Letter to the editor: Shooter backs gun regulations

I applaud Gov. Phil Scott’s pursuit of laws that would prevent mass murder in Vermont.
Here are two proposals that would make it impossible for shooters to attain the combination of rapid-fire and larger-than-normal cartridge capacity that makes it possible to fire a continuous fusillade of bullets.
1. Ban all accessories that permit a rifle to be converted to rapid-fire capability.
2. Ban large capacity magazines that make it possible for shooters to fire more than five cartridges without having to pause to reload.
If you just ban “bump stocks” manufacturers will design some other type of device that converts a rifle to rapid fire. Ban all rapid-fire accessories that are available now or become so in the future.
I am 81 years old and am a lifelong hunter and target shooter but I shun the NRA, which I believe represents people who want to rise up against government, not legitimate gun users.
Thank you for your consideration of these points.
