Film gets up close and personal with Britain’s most popular artist

Town Hall Theater continues its Great Art Wednesdays series with a vibrant documentary on living legend David Hockney this Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. Yup, it’s Valentine’s Day — a great date for the art-lover.
Widely considered Britain’s most popular artist, Hockney is a global sensation with exhibitions in London, New York, Paris and beyond, attracting millions of visitors worldwide. Now entering his ninth decade, Hockney shows absolutely no evidence of slowing down or losing his trademark boldness.
This revealing film by director Phil Grabsky focuses on two blockbuster exhibitions held in 2012 and 2016 at the Royal Academy of Art in London. It features intimate and in-depth interviews with the artist.
In conversation with Tim Marlow (Artistic Director at the Royal Academy of Arts), Hockney retells anecdotes from across his artistic and personal life — from his first trip abroad to Egypt in 1963, to the effects of the death of his close friend Jonathan Silver in 1997, and much more.
Running time is 85 minutes. Tickets are $13, or $8 for students and may be purchased at townhalltheater.org, by phone at (802) 382-9222 or in person at the Town Hall Theater Box Office (daily except Sunday, 12-5 p.m.)
