Hedy Lamar biopic featured at Vergennes film screening

Vergennes Opera House hosts two of the “best” films
The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival (MNFF) is bringing two of their 2017 “Best of the Fest” award-winning films to various theaters and town halls across Vermont. The Vergennes Opera House will host the films on Friday, Feb. 2, beginning at 7 p.m.
Friday’s features will open with the short, “An Autobiography,” followed by the feature film, “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story.”
“We are pleased to partner with the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival and allow our Vergennes-area audience an opportunity to enjoy these stellar films made by first and second-time filmmakers,” said Gerianne Smart, Vergennes Opera House president and board member of the film festival.
ABOUT THE FILMS
“Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story” is Alexandra Dean’s brilliant documentary that tells the story of the celebrated Hollywood star, Hedy Lamarr, who secretly devised groundbreaking technologies during WWII that contributed to the later development of cell phones, Bluetooth and WIFI. “Bombshell” won the Audience Award – Best Feature at MNFF3 and was also the recipient of MNFF’s inaugural Clio Visualizing History Prize for the Advancement of Women in Film. (90 minutes)
“An Autobiography” is Mari Mantela’s warm and sharply observed Finnish comedy. This film lovingly portrays a take-charge woman on the brink of retirement, who knows a lot about the inner workings of cars but very little about herself. “An Autobiography” took home the Audience Award – Best Short at MNFF3. (36 minutes)
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students (18 or younger) and are available online via vergennesoperahouse.org or at the door on Friday evening.
