FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh Grange “King Pede” card parties are scheduled for the Saturdays of Jan. 6 and 20. These get-togethers are held at the Ferrisburgh Town Hall and Community Center and begin at 6:30 p.m. with a sandwich supper and then on to an evening of fun and card games. King Pede is an unusual game that involves “trick-taking” techniques such as in Hearts and Spades or Pitch. This is a game of fun and skill so come prepared to use your strategic thinking.
It is wintertime and that means the Ferrisburgh Skating Rink has ice and is ready for skating. All residents are welcome to enjoy this local opportunity to get out, visit with friends, and enjoy the beautiful Vermont winter. There is always work to do to maintain the surface, so there are several shovels in the warming hut to clear any snow. Also, provided are a few stacked crates for beginning skaters.
There is a schedule posted to provide times for Open Skate (i.e. no Stick ‘n Puck.) The skating rink is located next to the Ferrisburgh Central School. For more information contact Martha Davis, [email protected] or visit the Ferrisburgh Skating Rink Facebook page for updates on availability and ice conditions.
The Bixby Library has many offerings for January and throughout the winter months. The Library is open for students to use after school until 7 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Students are welcome to come after school to relax, do homework, or chat with friends. The students can access the library’s laptop computers and there is Wi-Fi throughout the building. A library card is not required for the students.
There are other fun events at the library, such as the children’s story hours, writing workshops, and the Famous Friday Night movies on the first Friday of every month. Please visit the Bixby website for more information and also to sign up for the Bixby Buzz Newsletter at bixbylibrary.org.
There are several positions for Ferrisburgh town governance that will be on the March 6 ballot. These positions are listed on the town website and petitions are available at the Town Clerk’s office. Completed petitions must be in the Town Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29. Please consider serving our community and gain satisfaction by this type of public service work by contributing your time in these important positions. For more information, contact the Town Clerk at 877-3429 or [email protected].
The Commodore Parent Teacher Group is starting out the year with a call for new members. This organization works toward their mission of promoting family involvement in the school, improving communication between parents, teachers and administrators and providing enrichment programs for students. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Resource Response Center (Room C15 across from the principal’s office).
If parents can’t commit to meetings but still want to be involved, contact, Lynne Rapoport at [email protected] to be included on the distribution list. The list will inform members of the agendas of the monthly meetings and also periodic requests for help with different school initiatives.
The Vergennes Basketball season is underway and the Commodore Booster Club is asking for help with the concession stand during high school games. This year, specific sports teams will be assigned to each basketball game, so the players and families will know ahead of time which game they are responsible for. There will be a link posted soon for sign up. Thank you to everyone who helps with the concessions and also thanks to all for supporting our school sports programs. For more information, contact the Booster Club president, Kirsten De La Cruz 802-349-7152.
