Vergennes church to host concert to help local families

VERGENNES — For the second year, the Vergennes Congregational Church is hosting a musical event to aid Addison County neighbors in need. The Church sanctuary will echo with music from many performers on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m.
Performers include  the O’hAnleigh Irish Folk group; Emily Sunderman, classical string music; Ava Kelly, vocalist; Josh, Addie and Olivia Brooks, vocals and guitar; Margie Bekoff, harpist accompanied by Jim Morse; Vergennes Congregational Church Choir conducted by Bill Bowers and Sue O’Daniel; and Jenny Bower, Vermont’s organist of the year, at the Church’s historic 1879 Hook and Hasting organ.
Each of these talented musicians is donating their time and musical abilities to raise dollars to assist many local people with heat, electricity, doctor and dentist bills, rent, transportation expenses and more.
Just recently, Reverend Gary Lewis supplied bus dollars to an asylum seeker to attend English language classes in Middlebury. He helped others with auto repairs and a veterinary bill. Every month locals reach out to him directly for aid, but he also works with a number of County agencies, including HOPE, the Counseling Service, WomenSafe, area schools, and the John Graham Shelter, which come to him for special needs.
The Church is grateful to all who contributed to last year’s event and hope this year will be as successful. Admission is free, but any donation, large or small, will be appreciated, and every dollar will go toward community folk who need a boost. Come to the Church at 30 S. Water Street, Vergennes, on Dec. 10 and enjoy.
A reception with light refreshments will follow the concert. Contact 802-877-2435 or [email protected] with any questions. Donations are tax deductible.
