Tigers top Redhawks to claim No. 5 seed in football

HINESBURG – The Middlebury Union High School football team took an early lead and coasted to a 35-6 victory at Champlain Valley on Saturday, locking up the No. 5 seed in Division I in the process.
The 5-3 Tigers, who have lost only to top D-I seeds St. Johnsbury (8-0) and Hartford (7-1) and No. 1 D-II seed Burr & Burton (7-1), will visit No. 4 seed BFA-St. Albans (6-2) on Friday night. MUHS and BFA did not meet this fall.
A win vs. the Bobwhites would almost certainly mean a rematch with St. J the following weekend. St. J edged the Tigers, 9-7, at MUHS early this season.
On this past Saturday the Tigers took the lead on a 62-yard Cody Pomainville touchdown run.
Pomainville also tossed a pair of TD passes to Zach Dunn. In all, he completed seven of 10 attempts for 114 yards. Paul Deering also ran for a score, part of a day in which he rushed 14 times for 55 yards.
Shane Boehmke’s 12-yard TD run provided the points for the 3-5 Redhawks, who will enter the playoffs with the No. 8 seed and visit No. 1 St. Johnsbury.
