Otter Valley football rally falls short
NORTH CLARENDON — Host Division III Mill River outlasted the D-II Otter Valley Union High School football team, 35-33, on Saturday.
The 5-2 Minutemen took a 28-0 lead before the 0-7 Otters rallied behind quarterback Tyler Rowe, who threw for 270 yards and five touchdowns, four to Payson Williams and one to Dylan Mackie.
Rowe also ran 11 times for 75 yards, while Chandler Corey added 14 carries for 43 yards.
But the Otters couldn’t contain MRU running back Josh Bishop, who rushed for 278 yards and two scores, including a 15-yard run after OV cut the MRU lead to 28-26 in the third quarter.
OV moved 71 yards for a late 14-yard Rowe TD pass to Williams, but the Minutemen recovered the onside kick attempt and ran out the remaining seconds.
