Girls’ soccer: VUHS, OVUHS net victories

ADDISON COUNTY — In high school girls’ soccer late last week Vergennes and Otter Valley picked up wins, while Middlebury and Mount Abraham came up short against top teams.
COMMODORES
On Wednesday the Commodores coasted past winless Missisquoi at VUHS, 5-0. Kaitlyn Brace led the attack with two goals and an assist, and Emily Rooney scored in the opening minute to lead Vergennes and set up one of Brace’s goals. Morgan Lynk andLeah Croke added goals for VUHS.  The Commodores held the T-Birds without a shot on goalie Anya Sonwaldt as they improved to 2-5. MVU goalie Madison Conley made 19 saves.
OTTERS
On Friday the Otters edged host Bellows Falls, 1-0. Mary Kingsley buried a 20-yard shot in the first half for the game-winner on a pass from Julia Eastman. OV goalie Gabby Poalino made eight saves, and Coach Rick Hedding said his defenders, including Leah Pinkowski and Mallory Lufkin, played well as the Otters posted a shutout. OV improved to 2-5-1.
TIGERS
On Thursday visiting Milton edged the Tiger girls, 3-2. The Yellowjackets improved to 6-1 and got two goals from Tatum Shappy and seven saves from Madison Chalmers.
Isabel Rosenberg notched a goal and an assist for the Tigers, while Abby Gleason played in goal in the first half and made five saves, including stopping a penalty kick, and then scored a goal in the second half. Carly Burger stopped five shots in goal during the second half for the 4-3 Tigers.
EAGLES
On Saturday host Milton improved to 7-1 by edging the Eagles, 2-1. Brooke Caragher’s free kick in the second half broke a 1-1 tie, and Tatum Shappy also scored for Milton, while North stopped five shots.
Delana Tow converted a Lydia Pitts cross for Mount Abe’s goal, and goalie Olivia Paine made seven saves for the 4-4 Eagles.
