Tiger and Eagle girls’ soccer teams claim victories

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ soccer play late last week, Middlebury won to remain unbeaten, Mount Abraham split two games, and Otter Valley and Vergennes came up short.
TIGERS
On Wednesday a shorthanded Tiger team made Ailey Bosworth’s first-half goal, set up by Helen Anderson, stand up in a 1-0 win at Spaulding. MUHS was missing several players due to injury and illness, including its starting central defenders.
Coach Wendy Leeds credited the defense of Gwen Stafford at sweeper andAnnie Lapiner at stopper and the defensive work of  Anderson and Andi Boe at midfield. Goalie Abby Gleason worked a nine-save shutout, while Spaulding’s Lindsay LaPan stopped eight shots. The Tigers improved to 4-0 heading into a stretch of tough games.
EAGLES
On Wednesday visiting U-32 scored twice in the second half to rally for a 2-1 win over the Eagles. Jenna McArdle, from Emma Carter, gave Mount Abe the first-half lead, but ultimately an Isabella Hayes goal with 13:31 to go gave the 2-1 Raiders the win. Eagle goalie Olivia Paine made six saves, while U-32’s Jordon Keller stopped nine shots.
On Saturday the Eagles coasted at winless Missisquoi, 7-0, scoring five times in the first half. Carlotta Tow scored twice; Vanessa Dykstra,Lydia Pitts and Delana Tow notched a goal and an assist apiece; McArdle and Becca Laurent added a goal apiece; and Carter picked up an assist. Paine made one save to earn the shutout as the Eagles improved to 3-2, and MVU’s  Madison Conley made 14 saves.
OTTERS
On Friday host Windsor doubled up the Otters, 4-2, as the Jacks’ Olivia Rockwood scored three times. Julia Eastman scored both goals for OV, and goalie Gabby Poalino made nine saves as OV dropped to 1-4.
COMMODORES
On Saturday visiting Spaulding rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Commodores. Morgan Lynk gave VUHS the first-half lead, but the Tide equalized before the break and Grace Patterson scored the late second-half game-winner.
LaPan stopped 10 shots for Spaulding, and Anya Sonwaldt made nine saves for the 1-3 Commodores.
