Leicester woman killed in one-car crash in Salisbury
SALISBURY — A Leicester woman who was the mother of two was killed in a one-car crash just after midnight this past Wednesday.
Vermont State Police reported that Danielle Austin, 39, was driving a 2013 Chevy EQX westbound on Creek Road in Salisbury around midnight on Sept. 13 when she lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a utility pole near the intersection with Dewey Road. Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Troopers believed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash, but late last week they were still investigating. The Chevy was considered a total loss.
Austin was initially transported to Porter Hospital in Middlebury to receive treatment for her injuries, and she was airlifted to UVM Medical Center, where she died the same day.
A 1997 graduate of Middlebury Union High School, Austin is survived by her children, Wyleigh and Kayleigh Austin; her mother, Diane Rheaume of Brandon; her significant other, Bill Skidmore; and other family members (See a full obituary).
