Boys’ soccer: Eagles, Tigers win on road

ADDION COUNTY — Mount Abraham and Middlebury earned victories in boys’ soccer action late last week, while Otter Valley and Vergennes came up short.
EAGLES
On Thursday the Eagles breezed to a win in the consolation match of Rutland’s Loyzelle tournament, 4-0 over Mill River (1-3). William Wright,Sam Schoenhuber,Eric McKean andSilas Burgess found the net as the Eagles improved to 3-1, while goalie Ethan DeWitt worked a four-save shutout. MRU goalie Tyler Regula stopped eight shots.
TIGERS
The Tigers blanked host Rice, 5-0, on Friday to move over .500 at 2-1-1. Eben Jackson paced the attack with three goals, including half of the Tigers’ four-goal first-half outburst, and added an assist. Camden Simpson chipped in a goal and three assists, and J.D. Goettelmann opened the scoring for MUHS early in the first half. Tiger goalie Santiago Fernandez made two saves, while two Rice goalies combined for three stops.
OTTERS
On Thursday visiting Woodstock topped OV, 3-1, as Wasp Will Vicker scored twice. OV’s Josh Letourneau, from Justin Tremblay, made it 1-1 in the 15th minute, but the Wasps took the lead before the break and added a second-half pad goal. OV goalie Clay Hays made one save as OV fell to 2-1, and Steven Townley stopped five shots for the 1-1-1 Wasps.
COMMODORES
On Friday Division I power Burlington remained undefeated by overpowering visiting VUHS, 6-0. The loss was the first for the 2-1 Commodores, who visit Mount Abe this Monday.
