Letters to the Editor: Addison neighbors, responders made a difference

Editor’s note: The letter writer submitted this letter shortly after the May 18 microburst storm flattened her house in West Addison. We regret to say that we neglected to publish it at the time, but know that she still feels a great gratitude to the public servants and others who helped her out.
Dear Lifesavers, family and friends. “There but for the Grace of God go I.” As a true longstanding quote, this does not go quite far enough in my case.
The rapid response of my neighbors to turn off leaking gas, avoiding downed power lines, glass and other debris, saved my life. Firefighters and rescue staff extricated me before my cast iron stove let loose on my head.
The ingenuity, muscle and Yankee camaraderie relieved me of taking on the massive cleanup. You will forever be in my debt and in my prayers. It was quite a ride.
