Otter lacrosse nips Eagles, falls to Hartford

BRISTOL — The No. 5 Otter Valley Union High School boys’ lacrosse team upset the No. 4 Mount Abraham-Vergennes in a Division III quarterfinal this past Thursday, but No. 1 Hartford ousted the Otters under the lights on Saturday night.
On Thursday the Otters earned their first playoff win since 2006, 11-10 at the Eagles’ expense. Tyson Cram led the Otters with five goals in a game that was close throughout and scored a key goal as OV took the lead in the fourth quarter. Hayden Gallo added three scores and an assist, Ethan Sulik-Doty had a goal and an assist, and Justin Tremblay and Cody O’Connell added a goal apiece. Alec Stevens backstopped the victory.
Max Ratti-Bicknell led Mount Abe/Vergennes cooperative team with two goals and three assists. Jack Willis and Neo Weaver each had two goals, Nick Catlin notched a goal and an assist, and Phoenix King, Toby Bunch and Ryan Bonar added a goal each. Grady Brokaw made eight saves as the Eagles finished at 4-9.
On Saturday, No. 1 Hartford breezed to a 12-1 victory over OV, improving to 10-2 in the process. Sulik-Doty found the net for the Otters, with an assist from Gallo, and Stevens made 10 saves as the Otters finished at 4-11.
