Letter to the Editor: Congress must show leadership

I am compelled to write a letter and give my opinion on the situation in Washington D.C.
Donald Trump continues to act like a benchwarmer on the Junior Varsity team. His leadership, or more accurately lack of it, is of great concern to me. But what concerns me more are the action of the Republicans in the Senate and House of Representatives. Their failure to hold the President to any sort of accountability is deeply troubling. Their inaction has allowed us to come to the verge of a Constitutional crisis. It is incredible that they are following Donald Trump over a cliff with their eyes wide open. The obstructionist tactics that they used throughout the Obama presidency were overtly partisan. The failure to consider the Merrick Garland Supreme Court  nomination is clear evidence of this as they continue on this path today.
At last the Justice Department has heard the voices of the majority of fair-minded Americans and appointed Robert Mueller as Special Counsel for the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It is sad that our Democracy is in such disarray that this is necessary, but it will be strengthened as the investigation is led by someone who is not beholden to the Trump administration.
So, as I said, there is light at the end of the tunnel, we can only hope that the Congress recognizes the ineptitude of our current President, do as their oath of office demands, demonstrate that love of country is more important than love of political party or philosophy.
Sincerely,
Bruz Brown
