In high school softball: Local teams tally wins

ADDISON COUNTY — The Mount Abraham Union High School softball team topped rival Vergennes to highlight games late last week, while in other action Middlebury knocked off a previously unbeaten Division I foe and VUHS picked up a win.
EAGLES SWEEP
On Thursday, the Eagles improved to 6-0 with an 11-5 win over visiting VUHS. Audrey Shahan pitched an eight-hitter, allowing two earned runs and striking out six for the Eagles. Jenna McArdle hit a grand slam and added an RBI single for the Eagles, Rachael McCormick and Katelynn Ouellette each had three hits and scored three runs, Genysis Berube drove in three runs with two hits, and Brittany Sheeran added two hits. 
Sarah Rathbun paced VUHS with three hits and two RBIs, while Aly Gebo took the loss as VUHS dropped to 2-6.
VUHS WINS
On Wednesday, the Commodores rallied for three runs in the the seventh to defeat visiting Spaulding, 10-9. Taylor Bresnick singled, and Becca Maloy, who earlier doubled in two runs, drilled a two-run homer. Hannah Philbrook walked, and losing pitcher Emily Cetin hit Sidney Tarte with a pitch. With two out, Megan Tarte doubled in a run, and then Rathbun stroked a walk-off single.
Rathbun finished with three hits and two runs, Xzavia Berry cracked three hits, Sydney Tarte poked a solo homer, Megan Tarte doubled twice, and Bresnick singled and scored twice. Gebo earned the pitching win.
MUHS PREVAILS
On Thursday, MUHS knocked off previously undefeated Colchester, 4-2, as Payton Buxton tossed a four-hitter and struck out 16. Buxton also doubled, singled and scored a run, while Taylor Sylvester finished with a triple and two singles and scored a run to pace the attack for the 6-2 Tigers. Losing pitcher Alli Sheets threw a five hitter and struck out nine for the 7-1 Lakers.
