Letter to the Editor: Porter natal care exceptional and caring

Our son was born on Valentine’s Day. Despite two blizzards, the care we received at Porter was beyond amazing and has touched our hearts forever.
From the start we had Maggie Gardner, our midwife, and two amazing nurses, both Jane, to help us through a difficult labor. And then two days later, when our son took a downward turn, we had Dr. Mike Seaton and two more amazing nurses, Becci and Kathy, to continue to take care of us. And when he was transported to UVM the following morning, we had Heather Kidde and Vicki Kirby to hold our hands and calm our fears. This generosity and kindness continued during our stay at the NICU at UVM.
This level of care is more than a job for these providers. The compassion we experienced came from the heart. At a time when our world seemed to be full of unpredictability, we were offered love and empathy. Saying “thank you” will never be enough to return what we experienced. So in addition to thanking our providers, I will work to spread that compassion and love and empathy. And I will teach my now healthy child to do the same.
