Letter to the editor: Coyote hunt especially badly timed

While not illegal under our currently inadequate wildlife rules, the coyote-killing competition happening next week in Bristol is inhumane and should be disparaged. Coyotes are one of the few species that form monogamous pairs AND the males assist the mother in pup-rearing, along with other family members.
Right now is the middle of their breeding season — they are mating now and in two months give birth in March/April. You will be shooting pregnant mothers, killing fathers, breaking up families. Why? Coyotes already have such hard lives to get through — tapeworms, viruses, ticks, heartworms etc. Don’t add yourself to this list.
