Eagle girls’ hoop splits two games
HINESBURG — The Mount Abraham Union High School girls’ basketball team split a pair of games against Division I foes on Dec. 30 and 31 at Champlain Valley’s annual holiday tournament. The Eagles fell to Burr & Burton in the Friday opener, 39-30, before defeating Burlington in the consolation on Saturday, 51-47.
The 4-3 Eagles will return to action this Friday at Vergennes (4-1).
In the 51-47 consolation game win over the 0-3 Seahorses, Emma Carter led the way with 31 points. The game was close throughout — the Eagles led after one period, 19-14. Jalen Cook chipped in seven for Mount Abe.
Burr & Burton (2-3) avenged its 61-51 loss to Mount Abe earlier in the week in the consolation game of Fair Haven’s tournament. Carter scored 12 for the Eagles during the CVU tournament, a total matched by Bulldog Emily Bleakie.
