MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Nov. 9 were told utility workers had found two bones while digging in the Foster Circle area on Nov. 9. But the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the bones were not human, according to police.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Investigated a report of gunshots heard in the Seymour Street Extension area on Nov. 7. Police said they found evidence fireworks had been set off.
•  Investigated a vehicle-bicycle accident in which the cyclist sustained a major injury, on Route 7 south of the village on Nov. 7. Police said the cyclist sustained a fractured pelvis, a head laceration, and multiple abrasions. Middlebury Regional EMS officials took the individual to Porter Hospital.
•  Provided security during a hearing at the Addison County Courthouse after a person had allegedly threatened to blow it up on Nov. 7.
•  Investigated a report of screams heard in the Cross Street area on Nov. 8. Police said they found no one in distress.
•  Responded to a report of a drunken man on Merchants Row on Nov. 8.
•  Assisted a homeless man on Court Street Extension on Nov. 8.
•  Warned Court Street apartment tenants to turn down their music on Nov. 8.
•  Responded to a report that a woman was threatening to jump from the Cross Street Bridge at around 4:40 p.m. on Nov. 9. Authorities were able to talk the woman away from the edge of the bridge, and Middlebury Regional EMS took her to get mental health counseling.
•  Broke up an argument between two people in the Catamount Park area on Nov. 9.
•  Responded to a theft complaint at the Residences at Otter Creek retirement community on Nov. 9.
•  Investigated a report of a young man repeatedly throwing himself to the ground while walking along Creek Road on Nov. 9. Police said they were unable to find the man, who was reported to be heading toward South Village Green wearing a maroon sweatshirt and carrying a white bag.
•  Received a report on Nov. 9 about an Middlebury Union High School student allegedly engaged in a social media fight with other students.
•  Assisted Vermont State Police at the scene of a crash on Route 125 east in Ripton on Nov. 9.
•  Were informed of the theft of some unspecified items from a vehicle parked off Seminary Street on Nov. 10.
•  Issued an underage drinking citation to a youth whom police found drunk and vomiting on Valley View Road on Nov. 11.
•  Found a drunken man stumbling off North Pleasant Street on Nov. 11 and connected him with detox services.
•  Were informed of the alleged theft of some items from a man’s jacket while he was at a North Pleasant Street location on Nov. 11.
•  Helped a resident who on Nov. 11 reported that someone had opened a credit account in his name and made multiple charges.
•  Received a report that someone had dumped trash off Abbey Pond Trail on Nov. 11.
•  Responded to a reported disturbance between two female MUHS students on Nov. 11.
•  Conducted an untimely death investigation at a Birchard Park home on Nov. 11. Police said James D. Danyow Jr., 24, had died of what authorities believe was natural causes. Police said their investigation thus far indicates neither drugs nor any chronic medical condition were factors in his death.
•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Court Street residence on Nov. 11. Police said the residents had allegedly been slamming doors and shuffling furniture.
•  Investigated a disorderly conduct case involving two women at a Court Street residence on Nov. 13. Police said one of the women alleged that the other had confronted her about talking to her boyfriend, and then thrown a juice bottle at her.
•  Turned over to a sober acquaintance a drunken man who had entered the Middlebury Discount Beverage Center on Nov. 13.
•  Responded to a domestic disturbance at a Jackson Lane home on Nov. 14. Police said a woman at that address was taken to Porter Hospital, but did not disclose the reason. Police said the matter remains under investigation.
