New Haven’s Lincoln Peak earns national ‘Winery of the Year’ award
NEW HAVEN — After much swishing and spitting, winners were named at the 2016 International Cold Climate Wine Competition last month, and Lincoln Peak Vineyard of New Haven came out on top as “Winery of the Year.”
Out of 365 wines from 64 commercial wineries across the U.S. and Canada, the New Haven vineyard’s wines took home the most medals and awards at the competition in St. Paul, Minn.
“We were awarded one Best in Show, two Double Golds, three Golds, three Silver and two Bronze medals,” said Sara Granstrom, of Lincoln Peak.
Lincoln Peak received a “Best of Show” designation in the “Specialty” category for its 2014 Firelight, a late harvest dessert wine that is a blend of La Crescent and Frontenac Gris.
The competition was held at the University of Minnesota’s Continuing Education Conference Center in St. Paul, Minn.
Lincoln Peak just wrapped up its harvest for the year, and gathered 125,043 pounds of grapes in 2016, according to the company’s website.
