In other girls’ soccer action, Tigers blank VUHS

ADDISON COUNTY — Middlebury defeated visiting Vergennes to headline local high school girls’ soccer play in the latter half of last week. In other action, Mount Abraham and Otter Valley dropped home games.
The Eagles also hosted the Commodores on Saturday morning; see story.
MUHS-VUHS
On Wednesday, the Tigers topped the host Commodores, 2-0, on two second-half Helen Anderson goals, the second on a late set piece. Amelia Ingersoll andKatherine Moulton assisted the goals, and Monroe Cromis andAbby Gleason filled in at goalie and combined for three saves for MUHS.
Goalie Anya Sonwaldt made four saves as the Commodores fell to 4-4-1 heading into Saturday vs. Mt. Abe.
On Saturday, the Tigers improved to 4-5-1 by trouncing visiting Missisquoi, 7-1. Anderson scored twice and set up two Andi Boe goals, Ada Anderson and Isabel Rosenberg each recorded a goal and an assist, Cromis scored, and Sierra Barnicle set up two goals. Gleason played in goal for MUHS.
EAGLES
On Wednesday, visiting Rice improved to 8-1 by eking out a 1-0 victory over the Eagles. Rice scored on a free kick midway through the first half and got three saves from goalie Hannah Miller. Genysis Berube made seven saves as Mount Abe dropped to 3-6 heading into Saturday vs. VUHS.
OTTERS
On Friday, visiting Green Mt. Union scored twice in the second half to defeat OV, 3-1. Olivia Drew scored for OV on an Abbie Pinkowski free kick in the first half, and goalie Gabby Poalino made 12 saves as OV dropped to 4-7. The Otters can still finish at least .500 for the third time in program history by winning their final three games, two against teams they have already handily defeated and a third that they lost against by one goal on the road.
