VUHS is only other local winner in girls’ soccer
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ soccer action in the latter half of last week, Vergennes won big, but Mount Abraham and Middlebury came up short.
COMMODORES
On Saturday, VUHS celebrated its homecoming by blanking Missisquoi, 5-0. Emily Rooney scored three times, Ciara McClay andMorgan Lynk each converted penalty kicks, and Megan Rooney,Kaitlyn Brace andShelby Gage added assists as the Commodores moved to 4-3-1.
EAGLES
On Thursday, host Milton (7-1) edged Mount Abe, 2-1, on a pair of second-half goals by Tatum Shappy. After Shappy scored her first, Lauren Gibson equalized for the Eagles, but Shappy struck again. Goalie Genysis Berube stopped a dozen shots for the 3-5 Eagles, and Madison North made three saves for the Yellowjackets.
TIGERS
On Friday, host Rice improved to 7-1 by topping the Tigers, 3-1. Isabel Rosenberg scored a last-minute goal on a cross from Helen Anderson for the Tigers, who also had an Ada Anderson goal called back, apparently in error. Goalie Riley Fenster made 15 saves for the 2-5-1 Tigers.
