Woofstock hopes to raise $25K for shelter

MIDDLEBURY — Homeward Bound, Addison County’s Humane Society, is hosting Woofstock: Walk for the Animals, on Saturday, Sept. 17. This is the shelter’s largest fundraiser of the year with a goal of $25,000.Each year, a team from Wells Physical Therapy participates in the Walk to honor their dogs, Rufus and Petey, both of whom were adopted from Homeward Bound. This year, in addition to organizing a team, they have challenged 25 local businesses to participate in the Walk alongside them.
Development director Hannah Manley is grateful for this support. “It’s incredibly helpful to have our friends at Wells PT initiate this challenge. They are a passionate crew and we are hopeful that more local businesses will participate in our Walk this year, thanks to this friendly nudge!”
Registration for the Walk starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Sports Center in Middlebury. The one-mile walk begins at 11:30 a.m. Dogs are invited and encouraged to participate. The event will culminate at the town pool with music by Kelly Ravin, the A&W food cart and a pool party just for dogs!
The registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for youth. There is no fee for children 5 and under. Individuals can pre-register online or at the event. All walkers raising at least $50 will receive a special edition Woofstock t-shirt and all participating dogs will receive a bandana.
The top youth fundraiser will win a “day of play” package from Whirlie’s World, The Marquis Theatre and Vermont Sun. The adult who raises the most will win a Kenmore gas grill valued at $400 courtesy of Middlebury Sears. The top team will receive a private lunch for 10 people provided by the Grapevine Grille. The winning team will also get to keep “Woofy,” the event mascot, until next year’s Walk.
