Opinion: Chabonneau supported for House
We urge our Middlebury neighbors to nominate Jill Charbonneau and Amy Sheldon in the Democratic primary for our two Vermont House seats.
Amy has had a highly productive first legislative term. Her professional training and expertise make her an especially valuable contributor to discussions of critical environmental issues, particularly clean water and habitat preservation. She has also supported legislation for paid sick leave and fair and predictable taxes that keep Vermont competitive with neighboring states. She emphasizes the importance of leadership that balances social, economic and environmental demands. We are very fortunate to have Amy representing Middlebury and should unquestionably re-elect her.
Jill Charbonneau, who has for years served many local residents as our dedicated and energetic letter carrier, is an excellent candidate for Middlebury’s other legislative seat, long occupied with distinction by Betty Nuovo. Bernie Sanders warmly endorses Jill (see her ads in current issues of the Independent), who has held several elected posts including the presidencies of the Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO and the Vermont State Association of Letter Carriers. Jill is strongly committed to a $15 minimum wage and healthcare as a human right, beginning with publicly funded universal primary care. Access to affordable higher education is also high on her list of priorities.
Amy Sheldon and Jill Charbonneau will be an outstanding team representing Middlebury in Montpelier. Please vote to nominate them on Aug. 9 as our Democratic candidates for the Vermont House.
