Top seed ousts Tiger girls’ tennis

HINESBURG — Undefeated No. 1 Champlain Valley broomed the No. 8 Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team out of the Division I playoffs on Friday, 7-0.
The Tigers completed a successful season at 9-7, a record accomplished despite the graduation of several top players from the 2015 squad. That mark also includes a gritty, 4-3 home playoff win over No. 9 Rutland earlier last week.
In individual matches on Friday:
•  At No. 1 singles, Kathy Joseph (C) defeated Bree Cotroneo (M), 6-1, 6-0.
•  At No. 2 singles, Stephanie Joseph (C) defeated Claire Wulfman (M), 6-0, 6-0.
•  At No. 3 singles, Renee Dauerman (C) defeated Charlotte Keathley (M), 6-0, 6-0.
•  At No. 4 singles, Elyse Killkelley (C) defeated Monroe Cromis (M), 6-0, 6-0.
•  At No. 5 singles, Isabelle Angstman (C) defeated Calista Carl (M), 6-0, 6-0.
•  At No. 1 doubles, Kendall Blanck/Sara Erickson (C) defeated Ember Benatti/Amelia Ingersoll (M), 6-1, 6-1.
•  At No. 2 doubles, Erika Barth/Meara Heininger (C) defeated Tasha Hescock/Katie Isham (M), 6-2, 6-0.
