Opinion: Town, Diversified Occupations partnership is welcomed
Today while I was at the Middlebury Parks and Recreation’s new facility on Creek Road, I noticed that the Hannaford Career Center’s Diversified Occupations students were doing all of the plantings of the new trees and lawn surrounding the new building. I knew one of the teachers and students helping so I went over to say hello.
The D.O. program at the Career Center has a work study program. Kudos to them and the Recreation Department for joining forces. It was so refreshing to see students out there working, learning new skills and enjoying themselves on a sunny day.
I think it is wonderful that the town of Middlebury did not sub out that project to an outside contractor. These kids can come back year after year to that site and know that they had a role in making the new rec center a beautiful place.
