Men’s tennis team posts wins versus NESCAC rivals

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams each posted 5-2 victories over Montpelier on Tuesday, the boys’ team at home in their opening match of the spring, and the girls’ squad on the road to improve to 3-0.
In Middlebury, the boys’ individual results were:
• At No. 1 singles, Jonathan Fitzcharles, MUHS, defeated Tyler Cain, Mont., 6-2, 7-5.
• At No. 2 singles, Nicholas Holmes, MUHS, defeated Graham Janson, Mont., 6-4, 3-6, 1-0.
• At No. 3 singles, Truman Lee-Solomon, Mont., defeated Ziven McCarty, MUHS, 2-6, 7-6, 1-0.
• At No. 4 singles, Owen Hammel, MUHS, defeated Henry Valentine, Mont., 1-6, 6-3, 1-0.
• At No. 5 singles, Jesse Rubin, MUHS, defeated Zeke Harper, Mont., 7-6, 6-4.
• At No. 1 doubles, Ben Silver/Max Mayone, MUHS, defeated George Huang/Brett Butler, Mont., 6-2, 6-0.
• At No. 2 doubles, Josh Golonka/Quin Butler, Mont., defeated Ronan Howlett/Joao Pedro Ribeiro, MUHS, 1-6, 6-1, 1-0.
In Montpelier, the boys’ individual results were:
• At No. 1 singles, Bree Cotroneo, MUHS, defeated Lyvia Bashara, Mont., 6-3, 6-1.
• At No. 2 singles, Kelsey Golonka, Mont., defeated Claire Wulfman, MUHS, 6-3, 6-1.
• At No. 3 singles, Amelia Ingersoll, MUHS, defeated Emily Bashara, Mont., 6-3, 6-4.
• At No. 4 singles, Charlotte Keathley, MUHS, defeated Caitlin Acosta, Mont., 6-1, 4-6, 11-9.
• At No. 5 singles, Maggie Noonan, Mont., defeated Calista Carl, MUHS, 6-0, 6-0.
• At No. 1 doubles, Monroe Cromis/Ember Benatti, MUHS, defeated Isabelle Boutin/Antonia Bean, Mont., 6-3, 6-1.
• At No. 2 doubles, Katie Isham/Tasha Hescock, MUHS, defeated Khylear Imbeau/Elena Papi, Mont., 6-1, 6-1.
