Jackie Deering wins national teacher award

MIDDLEBURY — The Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation (TLLCCF) has announced that Jackie Deering of Otter Creek Child Center in Middlebury has been selected to receive the 2016 Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children’s Tylenol National Child Care Teacher Award. Deering was selected from a pool of applicants nationwide. She will receive an award of $1,000 on Saturday, April 16, in Philadelphia.
There are a total of 49 National Child Care Teacher Award recipients for 2016. The recipients of the Terri Lynne Lokoff National Child Care Teacher Awards each designed an enhancement project that illustrates the educational, social and emotional benefits for the children in their care. Deering’s award-winning project that she will implement with a grant from the awards program is the “Sensory Table Project.” A new sensory table that will be added to Otter Creek’s preschool classroom will provide new ways for the children to explore and experiment with many different types of materials.
A committee of national early childhood educators and experts reviewed and scored the applications. Each recipient receives a $1,000 award: $500 to implement their proposed project and $500 to acknowledge their dedication.
