MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury Community Television (MCTV) will hold a roundtable discussion, titled “Archiving Our Community in the 21st Century,” at its annual meeting on Wednesday, March 16. The discussion, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room of Ilsley Library in Middlebury, will bring together a cross-section of community organizations and people interested in documenting current events and preserving the history of the Middlebury area.
“In today’s digital age, we are awash in information,” Len Rowell, chair of the MCTV board, said. “How we store it and make it easily accessible is a challenge to libraries, schools, museums, and town government.”
“Our annual meeting goal has always been to assess the community’s information needs and to moderate conversations on how to meet them,” Dick Thodal, director of MCTV, added.
Bryan Alexander, a board member and a former senior fellow at the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education, will introduce the topic and moderate the discussion. Alexander has advised scores of colleges and other educational organizations on how to use technology to advance teaching and learning. He is the author of “The New Digital Storytelling: Creating Narratives with New Media,” published in 2011.
“We are creating and sharing information very differently in this age of iPads, iPhones, Twitter, Facebook and blogs,” Alexander said. “How and where we preserve this new media and traditional media is very much a work in progress.”
